About

Metro Community Outreach (MCO) started in 1999 as a ministry to link like-minded churches, people and organizations together to reach out to the Washington, DC metro area.

A passage that is foundational to the ministry is in John 17:20-23 where Jesus said, My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

When like-minded churches with people from diverse backgrounds link together to serve the community, people notice.  It’s one way that Jesus’ prayer here in John 17 is being lived out.

The roots of MCO go back to 1991 and a ministry called Capital Outreach. Capital Outreach was an interdependent network of local churches in the Washington, D.C. area coming together for grass roots outreach in the local communities.  Some of the outreach venues included the 1994 Sports Outreach International Festival at the Sylvan Theater, the Lincoln Memorial and Reflecting Pool, Reston Town Center, Dupont Circle, Farrugut Square, Freedom Plaza, Pentagon City Mall, Springfield Mall and Landmark Mall.  In 1999, Capital Outreach became Metro Community Ministries or Metro Community Outreach.

MCO supports the same Statement of Faith as the National Association of Evangelicals (nae.net).
